3 Stripe Damsel
Dascyllus aruanus
Three Stripe Damsel

Identification: White body divided by 3 black vertical stripes. Slight hint of blue sometimes on the fins.

Maximum Length: 3.1"

Origin: Indo-Pacific

Minimum tank size: 20 Gallon

Behavior: They are cute as juveniles and hardy enough to be used in starting new aquariums, but can grow into a real terror in a community tank. Young specimens can be kept in  a group but as adults they will fight, unless they are a male-female pair.

Feeding and diet: Meaty foods, including Krill, Mysis Shrimp, and vitamin enriched brine.

Reef Compatibility:  Ideal for the reef aquarium; will not harm any invertebrate tank mates and will eat some algae.

Cautions: Will also fight other damselfish and will pick on docile tank mates. Best kept in a moderately aggressive community tank with larger dottybacks, angelfish, triggerfish,  and puffers.
