Black Cap Basslet
Gramma melacara

Identification: Its coloration is deep purple overall with a black stripe running from the tip of its nose along its back to the rear of the dorsal fin. 

Maximum Length: Attains a length of approximately 4 inches.

Origin: Tropical Western Atlantic

Minimum tank size:  30 Gallon

Behavior: The Black Cap Basslet is an expensive aquarium fish, mainly because of the depths at which it must be collected. The aquarist should be careful with this species because it is very aggressive, mainly towards its own or similar species. This species should also be housed in an aquarium with numerous hiding places. 

Feeding and diet: This species will accept a wide variety of prepared foods such as Brine shrimp, Mysis shrimp and other prepared foods.

Reef Compatibility: It makes an excellent marine aquarium fish because it will not harass invertebrates. It will adapt quickly to the reef setting.

Cautions:  Do not keep with other basslets as they may flight.
