Blue Boxfish
Ostracion melegris
Identification: The male is dark with blue mottling; the female is brown with white spots.
Maximum Length: 6.3"
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Minimum tank size: 55 Gallon
Behavior:
Feeding and diet: Difficult to feed at first.
Live vitamin enriched brine shrimp may be needed to initiate
feeding. Once eating, offer a varied diet of meaty foods. Do not offer floating
foods
Reef Compatibility: Not Recommended. Will eat many types of sessile invertebrates, including some corals.
Cautions: Can exude ostracitoxin
when stressed, which can fatally poison an entire tank. If the fish is
being
harassed by tank mates or is dying, remove the source of the stress
or the boxfish. Keep singly or in pairs.
