Blue Face Angel
Pomacanthus xanthometopon
Blue Face Angel

Identification: This species has a greenish blue and yellow checked appearance across the body with a blue face. There is orange around the eye area and under the trim, and yellow on the tail and upper back fins.

Maximum Length: Attains a length of 16-17 inches.

Origin: Eastern Indian Ocean and Western Pacific

Minimum tank size: 100 Gallon

Behavior: This species is a moderately hardy aquarium species. The greatest challenge facing the aquarist is when the angelfish is initially introduced to the aquarium environment. At times, it can be difficult to get this species to feed since it is often shy when first introduced

Feeding and diet: This species should be fed a large amount of sponge and greens, mimicking its natural diet.

Reef Compatibility:  This is not a good species for the marine reef aquarium because it will feed on a variety of invertebrates.

Cautions: Only mix with other angels if you have a large tank. Most adult male angels will fight for territory
