Coral Beauty
Centropyge bispinosus

Identification: The coloration of the species is generally bluish purple with an orange red center, with lines running through the body area. Specimens do, however, vary to some degree in coloration with some having a greater amount of purple with a smaller orange center. There also is a variance in the richness of the purple and the redness of the center area.

Maximum Length: Reaches a length of approximately 5 inches.

Origin: Fiji Islands

Minimum tank size: 30 Gallon

Behavior: Given its hardiness and the fact that they are relatively inexpensive, out of all the pygmy angelfish, the Coral Beauty is perhaps the best choice for the beginner aquarist.

Feeding and diet: The Coral Beauty is an excellent marine aquarium inhabitant as it will readily accept prepared foods, will often graze upon the algae on the side of the tank and does not tend to be aggressive towards it tank mates.

Reef Compatibility: The Coral Beauty is an excellent marine reef aquarium inhabitant, although on very rare occasions it may pick at certain corals and at the mantles of clams. This behavior tends to be the exception rather than the rule.

Cautions: It may possibly be aggressive towards other Coral Beauty Angelfish or other pygmy angelfish.
