Flame Hawk
Neocirrhites armatus
Identification: Its coloration is bright red overall with a black stripe down its back and black around the eye area.
Maximum Length: 3.5"
Origin: West and South Pacific
Minimum tank size: 20 Gallon
Behavior: This species is extremely hardy making it an excellent marine aquarium fish. Since it does not have a swim bladder like most other species, it cannot hover in the water without swimming and as a result will perch on rocks and other aquarium decorations. This species is also a relatively non-aggressive one, making it an excellent choice for the community aquarium. It will accept a variety of prepared foods and should do well long term in the aquarium environment.
Feeding and diet: Meaty foods such as Krill, Shrimp, Silver sides, Ghost Shrimp, Mysis, Plankton and Brine.
Reef Compatibility: Although this species does not harm corals in anyway, it is generally not recommended for the reef aquarium as it may devour any small ornamental crustaceans. If your reef aquarium does not house any of these animals, the Flame Hawkfish will make a good reef aquarium species.
Cautions: An occasional specimen may act aggressive towards other bottom dwelling fishes.
