Siganus vulpinus
Identification: Golden-yellow body coloration with black and white masked facial area.
Maximum Length: At maturity these fish attain a size from 7-10 inches.
Origin: Central/Western Pacific
Minimum tank size: 75 Gallon
Behavior: Very Shy fish. When scared, will change its' color to a brownish color.
Feeding and diet: Varied Diet, mostly vegetable
matter. Feed dried and frozen foods for herbivores
that contain Spirulina.
Reef Compatibility: Will browse on desirable
and undesirable algae. If fed well, will typically ignore corals,
although some will nip and even eat large polyped species and certain soft coral
polyp.
Cautions: It should be noted that the 13 dorsal, 4 ventral and 7 anal fin rays all have poison within them which is secreted by poison glands at their base. A wound inflicted by one of these rays is extremely painful but rarely fatal, unless a known circulatory system problem or allergic reaction occurs. To minimize the pain it is recommended that a hard compress be applied immediately to de-nature the poison, thus minimizing the pain.
