Maxima Clam
Tridacna maxima
Identification: Comes in many colors of Purple, Blue, Green, Black ,Brown and Gold.
Behavior: In nature, T. maxima are found in shallow, almost crystal clear, waters where they are exposed to intense sunlight all day long. Therefore we recommend that T. maxima only be kept under metal halide lighting. Like other members of its genus, such as T. crocea and T. maxima, it has ways of attaching itself to the coral reef. It can burrow into the substrate, but not as deeply as T. crocea. It may also attach by its byssal filaments, which it can do in a day, so its first placement in the aquarium should be considered permanent.
