Orange Skunk Clown
Amphiprion sandaracinos
Orange Skunk Clown

Identification:  It is yellowish-orange (off-yellow) colored fish. Pink specimens are widely seen too and have the same off pinkish color. A thin white line runs across the top part of the body starting by the mouth and ending by the tail.

Maximum Length: 5.5"

Origin: Indo-Pacific

Minimum tank size:   55 Gal.

Behavior:  The skunk clown does not colonize many anemones. It prefers Heteractis magnifica (or the so-called Ritteri anemone) and Stichodactyla mertensii, one of the many carpet anemones found in the hobby. It may also form a relationship with other carpet anemones, e.g. S. haddoni. The skunk clown may not colonize any other anemones in your tank though.

It is an aggressive fish and will defend its anemone with great vigor, venturing quite far away to chase intruders. Skunk clowns will attack other fish that venture too close to their host anemone as well, dashing out at them damaging the other fish in the process. Skunk clowns are hardy and usually win the fights.

This is not a fish that should be kept in aquariums where other aggressive clownfish or where other clownfish that seem to favor the same type of anemones are present already because you will have fights whether you like it or not.

Feeding and diet:  Varied Diet, including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched brine shrimp,
Finely chopped table shrimp as well as frozen preparations for herbivores.

Reef Compatibility:   Excellent. Best kept in pairs with a host anemone.

Cautions:  May behave aggressively towards similar species.
