Parrot's
Feather (myriophyllum
aquaticum) No pond is complete unless it contains Parrots feather. It will add oxygen to the water and help fight off algae growth by consuming all of the excess nutrients. They also provide a spawning area for the fish and providing a hiding spot for baby fry. Parrots feather can be either potted or allowed to float on top of the water where it adds an air of softness to the pond. It is very easy to grow in the pond either way. I have it both floating and potted in all of my water gardens. As a potted plant, it can have 3 to 12" of water over the top of the pot. If you prefer to have it floating in your pond simply pinch off a tip of a plant and throw it in the water. It will grow roots in a very short period of time. The roots will grow down in the water and the top growth will billow out across the water. |
