Purple Pseudochromis
Pseudochromis porphyreus
Purple Pseudochromis

Identification: Solid magenta colored fish.

Maximum Length: 2.4"

Origin: Western and South Pacific

Minimum tank size: 20 Gallon

Behavior: All Pseudochromis species are relatively small, shy, need lots of hiding spaces and have to be kept as single specimens especially in smaller aquariums. They easily become aggressive among themselves but will leave other fish alone. They may however bother other small fish. Pseudochromis are by nature quite shy fish and need to be kept with fish their own size. If they are kept with bullying fish Pseudochromis will hide most of the time between the rocks and crevices.

You will need to watch out for feeding too. They are easily out competed for food due to their shy nature. Make sure you see them feed. Most Pseudochromis will eat very small crustaceans and small animalcules they find on the live rock though.

They should not be kept with many large fish since they will have difficulty feeding. Due their shyness they may not get to the food in time.

Feeding and diet: Many eat worms and small crustaceans. They will not bother feather dusters and Christmas tree worms although they may "inspect" them to determine what they are dealing with.

Reef Compatibility:  Pseudochromis are nice additions to a reef tank but care is in order as tot what type and with what other fish they will have to cohabitate.
