Raccoon Butterfly
Chaetodon lunula
Identification: Its coloration is yellowish brown overall with a black vertical stripe running through the eye, a white vertical stripe just posterior to it and black spotting posterior to the white vertical stripe, at the base of the tail and on the top anal fin.
Maximum Length: Attains a length of approximately 8 inches.
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Minimum tank size: 75 Gallon
Behavior: Overall this species is peaceful towards other marine aquarium species, although it may show aggressive behavior towards newly introduced fish and towards other species in the butterflyfish family.
Feeding and diet: Varied Diet, including marine fish, crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp and other frozen preparations.
Reef Compatibility: The Raccoon Butterflyfish does not make a good marine reef aquarium fish because it will feed upon corals, a behavior which also occurs in the wild.
